Veronica Mars Actor Brad Bufanda Has Passed Away

Page Six reports that Veronica Mars actor Brad Bufanda committed suicide by jumping off a building on Wednesday. Bafunda was 34 years old. Bafunda's manager confirmed his passing, stating “We are completely devastated for he was an extremely talented young actor and wonderful, caring human being. He was reviving his career, having just completed two movies, and we are shocked and saddened by his passing. The family would appreciate privacy at this difficult time.” Bufanda played the role of Felix Toombs on the first two seasons of Veronica Mars; he had guest appearances in other TV shows and appeared in the movie A Cinderella Story.

Alec Baldwin is Going to Be a Father Again. Yes, Again.

E! News reports that Alec Baldwin, 59, and wife Hilaria, 33, are expecting their fourth child together. The couple, married since 2012, are already parents to daughter Carmen, 4, and sons Rafael, 2,and Leonardo, 1. Baldwin is also father to Ireland Basinger-Baldwin, 22, with ex-wife Kim Basinger. So if it's a boy, I'm betting it will either be named Donatello or Michelangelo. Turtle power!

Blind Gossip Exclusive Blind Item - The Hunting Ground

Aspiring actors take acting classes to learn how to act. But what if the teacher of those classes has his own twisted agenda?

This very well-known actor stars in both film and TV projects. He teaches acting on the side.

We’re being told that some very questionable activity goes on in his acting classes. Here are some examples from former students:

-The first day of class, he told us to take off all our clothes so we could learn how to be comfortable being vulnerable in front of the camera.
-He says the sex scenes are “art” and that if you want to be a real “artist” you have to be comfortable with taking your clothes off and having sex on camera.
-He uses the class as his own personal casting couch for him and his friends. He introduces you to his other “teacher” friends  or his “producer” friends who pretend to want to help you with your craft or with getting roles, but they always just want to have sex.
-He has you take your clothes off, and he takes his clothes off, too. If you don’t do the fake sex scene with him, he will throw you out out of class.
-I’ve been on film sets before and unless you are doing p*rn, there is absolutely no reason for actors to be totally nude. We should have had pasties or c*ck socks. The whole thing just felt wrong.
-One day it got so creepy that our entire class walked out.
-He offers some of the female students roles in unpaid films. You show up on the set and you have to sign an NDA. Then he tells you – surprise! – you need to do an improvised sex scene with him. If you refuse, you get fired, and because you have an NDA, you can’t tell anyone about it.
-He had the women on the set of [name of film] wear dental dams, and not in their mouths. You shouldn’t have to wear a dental dam for a simulated sex scene.
-Some of the kids in the class are only 17 or 18 years old and are very naive and just want to make it in the business. He’s famous so they just do what he tells them. I think he counts on this to take advantage of them.
-Some of the students complained to the school about him and his friends and what they were forcing the students to do, but the school just kicked out the students.

This doesn’t sound like an acting school. This sounds like a hunting ground.

Popbitch Blind Item - Journalist Complaints

Which journalist – who has been pretty outspoken about abuse and harassment in Hollywood in recent weeks – just so happens to be the subject of about half a dozen complaints in his own office? Luckily for him, his line manager is unlikely to take any decisive action about it. Mainly because the journalist gives so much lucrative freelance work to the line manager’s wife...

The Hollywood Reporter’s Producer Roundtable

The Hollywood Reporter recently gathered Judd Apatow, Amy Pascal, Jason Blum, Eric Fellner, Seth Rogen, and Ridley Scott for a producer roundtable interview. Here are some highlights from their conversation:

We live in a politically charged time and in an age with more media than ever in the history of the world. Can film still have a social impact?

JUDD APATOW That's a good question. How I think about it is: People like Jon Stewart and shows like South Park have led to a younger generation thinking about things differently, maybe being more tolerant. So if you've watched people like Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah make fun of people who are prejudiced and [say] people who treat people bad are bullshitters, you might begin to form your way of reading the news. But I don't know if one movie rocks the world in such a way that people go, "Wait a second, I don't like Trump." (Laughter.) But I hope that if people see The Big Sick, they might think, "I don't know that much about a lot of the people who immigrate to this country and maybe I could tune in a little bit and be more compassionate."

ERIC FELLNER Movies can absolutely change or push a conversation, but only if they're good. And if we're not all making good movies, then people are going to migrate away from the cinema.

JASON BLUM One of my favorite things that [director] Jordan [Peele] always says about Get Out is that when you come into the movie, white people might relate to Allison [Williams] more, and black people might relate to Daniel [Kaluuya] more, but by the end, everyone is on the same side. That's probably my favorite thing about the movie.

APATOW The Big Sick premiered at Sundance the day of the inauguration. So we weren't thinking about any of this when we were making the movie, and then suddenly the Trump thing became very real, and there was all of this talk about how Mexicans are rapists and not wanting to let people into the country. And suddenly the movie felt like it had resonance around these issues — but all we were trying to do is humanize these people who live in the United States, and suddenly that became a political act.

FELLNER Just as an audience member of your movie, it was a great story about human issues. And then it was like, "Oh, my God, it's really interesting what's going on."

I want to get into Harvey Weinstein and harassment in Hollywood. What responsibility does the industry have for this type of behavior?

APATOW It's a difficult question because there is a culture of paying off people. If you're sexually inappropriate with somebody, they think, "Oh, if I speak up, am I suddenly a pain in the ass to everyone else in show business and I'll never work again?" And then Harvey's like, "Here's 150 grand, and I won't mention it to anybody." That's why it lasts for decades, because it's like a perfect system. We all hear all these rumors: "He does this, he does that." But we didn't see it. So it's hard to say, "Let's go get him," because we're not a part of it. It's unfortunately up to the people that are truly aware of it. Someone was writing those checks and somebody knew and those people on the inside, when they're quiet also, it goes on for decades and decades. But it's not hard to not be a creep. We all work in this business. It's very easy not to act like that. You can respect women. It's easy. It's demented not to. And hopefully the industry as a whole is getting fed up.

ROGEN I worked with him once a decade ago, and I was like, "This is a bad dude. I'm never going to work with him ever again." And everyone is just like, "Yeah!" But they still do. People would say to me, when I would refuse to work with him, "You know, he's old-school." And there is kind of a wink and an acceptance of that type of behavior. A lot of Hollywood people also like the fact that we work in a business that doesn't have the same rules as other businesses, and they're kind of free to have varying personalities. That ultimately also allows people to excuse a lot of horribly inappropriate behavior that shouldn't be acceptable.

Do you think Harvey's an outlier?

PASCAL No, I don't think that he is an outlier. And I think that's probably why a lot of people haven't spoken up, because I don't think that you can throw bricks at glass houses. Some of the problem is that people really believed that they'd get hurt. And it's a tragic situation for our business. The women who stood up have to be applauded because that's really, really hard to do when nobody wants to stand up, and the silence is deafening. That's the part that we're responsible for.

ROGEN There's just a lot of people who, for lack of a better word, are pieces of shit, and people just keep working with them. Because they're just like, "Well, it's a necessary evil. It's what you got to do."

PASCAL And you can make money.

ROGEN Yeah, you can make money. And like, I don't work with those people. Again, I said 10 years ago I'd never work with him. I knew nothing about any of this stuff, but it's not surprising at all. So more people need to do that. It's nice that I'm in a position where I'm successful enough to say I don't want to work with someone, 'cause a lot of people aren't in that position. But it is up to those [who are] to not work with those people and to shun them and to let people know that it's not acceptable.

What's the best advice that each of you has received about working in the industry?

BLUM Mine was recent, actually. There's this book called Ego Is the Enemy.

ROGEN I disagree with that. (Laughter.)

BLUM So there's this whole chapter in the book, which says passion is the enemy. Obviously I don't totally believe that, but it's a funny idea, and it rung very true to me. There is something really to the notion of being pragmatic. The first eight movies I produced, I wasn't passionate about the script. I read a script that I thought I could get made. And now, luckily, we're all in the position where we do things that we love. But to those starting out, I'm going to say, put passion over here for a second and be pragmatic.

PASCAL You always have a choice between your ambition and your ego. And you have to be very clear which one you're choosing all the time, because it's really hard not to choose your ego. And it doesn't work.

APATOW I'm trying to think of the best advice I've given. I remember when we were making Superbad with Seth, I think my advice was, "Less jizz, more heart."

ROGEN Yeah! (Laughter.)

APATOW It's an odd encapsulation of years working for Garry Shandling, whom I'm making a documentary about. Everything for him was about getting to the truth of people and being authentic. Garry didn't make an enormous amount of things in his life. He did great stand-up, a couple of specials and like two series that changed television. He did things that he cared deeply about. He wanted to make things that would make the world a better place, make people think, make people happier, make people in some way try to connect with other people. And so I have always thought about what Garry would do and how he made decisions.

FELLNER I think Stephen Frears gave Judi Dench that exact note. (Laughter.)

ROGEN Less jizz, more heart?

FELLNER Less jizz, more heart. She went with it, and it worked.

Kyra Sedgwick Steps Behind the Camera

Actress Kyra Sedgwick has started directing films. She recently spoke to People about what inspired her move behind the camera; here’s what she had to say:

“I have to say, Kevin [Bacon] was a really big inspiration for me because he was like, ‘Not only can you do it, but you’ll do it well and you’ll love it.' He was absolutely right.”

On her biggest fear as a director:
“I thought I had to be great at everything. I didn’t want to chance not being great at [directing].”

On the negative impacts of social media, which is the subject of her directorial debut:
“I think it’s completely unregulated and there’s too much information coming at us and too much information going out. I think the increase in teenage suicide is because of FOMO: fear of missing out. Everyone’s life looks perfect on [social media] so they think, ‘I should be happy all the time,’ and the truth is most people are not. Most people are struggling with a lot of stuff. I’m scared of it.”

And on what's next:
“I love directing. I love it more than anything, and I can’t wait to do more of it. [I am] singing it from the mountaintops and banging on every door, and I’m not taking no for an answer.”

Survivor Stories

After Jeremy Piven vehemently denied that he had assaulted actress Ariane Bellamar, actress Cassidy Freeman took to her Instagram to level her own charges against Piven, stating:

"You will deny this because, sadly, she’s deniable. The backlash this woman received was horrendous. And whether or not her accusations are true, the TRUTH is I know you. I know what you did and attempted to do to me when I was far too young. THAT I know. And you know it too. Unless there were so many of us, that you can’t remember. Predatory behavior is a chronic way for you to seek power. Do you feel powerful? With your lawyers and your networks and your die hard man-fans who call your victims bimbos? Or do you know, in your rotten gut, that you will have to lie for the rest of your life? I hope from now on, you keep it in your pants and you never get to do it again."

Page Six reports that a second woman has stepped forward to talk about being sexually harassed by Dustin Hoffman, stating that "Hoffman allegedly propositioned her and attempted to persuade her to leave the office and accompany him to a store in a nearby hotel." Hoffman's spokesperson declined to comment.

If you’re wondering why some women still have not come forward, here is one of the many reasons why: E! News reports that Brett Ratner is suing Melanie Kohler for defamation after she revealed on her Facebook page that she was raped by the director.

Blind Gossip Blind Item - The Breakup Story Was a Lie

This beautiful actress broke up with her badly behaved director husband after he was found to be having an affair with a girl young enough to be their daughter.

So, what did she do? Well, she didn’t break down. Instead, she started dating a guy young enough to be their son!

However, if we recall correctly, she hated the criticism she received over the huge age difference and they broke up after just a couple of months.

Or did they?

No, they did not! The breakup story was a lie! She is still with him. In fact, for Halloween, they dressed up together as a couple. They just didn’t take any photos together.

Do you think their child/ren will harbor any ill will over the fact that both parents are dating people so young?

On the keys to joy:
“Marry the right person, give birth to a redhead, and have great girlfriends. Those would be the three keys to joy.”

"I always love my birthday. [I will celebrate] with open arms and gratitude … There’s nothing different about this birthday than any other one.”

On reporters repeatedly asking her about turning 50:
“Really, people? Are we still in that space? Did anyone go over this with George Clooney or Brad [Pitt] before their 50th birthdays?”

On her children becoming teenagers:
“All the clichés are true. I’m so proud of them but also …  I tried to carry somebody up to bed the other night, and it was just - ‘All right, you’re gonna have to get on your feet and sleepwalk because I just can’t get up the stairs.’ ”

On how she feels about her life today:
“There’s no way to describe it without sounding sappy or ridiculous because everything in my mind ends with an exclamation point. And the thing is, we have these three human beings who are just a complete reflection of the affection we have for each other.”

Alex Trebek recently told the Daily Beast about that time he accidentally ate pot brownies. Here's what he had to say:

“It was by accident! I didn’t know what they were. I had just arrived in California and went to a friend’s house for dinner, and there were brownies. I love brownies—I’m a chocoholic—and I didn’t realize that they were hash brownies. And… whoa. That threw me for a loop. I took down about a half-dozen. The dinner party was on a Friday, and I was not able to leave that house until Sunday afternoon. I spent the next day and a half in bed. It was not a good trip, and I have not done any of that stuff since!”

Survivor Stories

Next up, Brett Ratner. Six women, including Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn, have gone on the record with the LA Times detailing sexual harassment or misconduct by director Brett Ratner. Henstridge said of her encounter with Ratner, “He strong-armed me in a real way. He physically forced himself on me. At some point, I gave in and he did his thing.” Munn has written before about an encounter with a director who "masturbated in front of her in his trailer when she went to deliver a meal." She now reveals that director is Rattner: “I've made specific, conscientious choices not to work with Brett Ratner. It feels as if I keep going up against the same bully at school who just won't quit. You just hope that enough people believe the truth and for enough time to pass so that you can't be connected to him anymore.”

Naturally, Ratner denies everything, through his lawyer Marty Singer. Read the full story at the Los Angeles Times.

J Lo and A Rod's Couples Interview with Vanity Fair

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are on the cover of Vanity Fair, together. And they gave a joint interview to the magazine, who dubbed them J-Rod. Here are some highlights from that interview:

Jennifer, on how they met at a restaurant in Beverly Hills:
“I almost yelled out ‘Alex,’ but I am the shyest person when it comes to things like that...I could literally just have walked away. But I walk over and tap him on the shoulder and say ‘Hey.’ I had just come from a promo for my show, Shades of Blue [in which she plays N.Y.P.D. detective Harlee Santos], so I’m dressed like my character, like a boy—Timberlands, jeans, curly short hair. He looks at me. I say, ‘It’s Jennifer.’ He says, ‘You look so beautiful.’ ”

Jennifer, on their first date, at the restaurant at the Hotel Bel Air:
“He was sitting there in his white shirt, very confident and manly, but then he was just so talkative! I think he thought I was going to be this loud person, but I’m not. I just listen. So he’s talking, talking about his plans, about how he had just retired from baseball, about how he saw himself getting married again, all these things you wouldn’t normally talk about on a first date. I don’t know if he thought it was a date. I thought it was a date. Then I knew he was nervous because he asked me if I wanted a drink. I said, ‘No, I don’t drink,’ and he asked if I minded if he had one. He was nervous, and it was really cute.”

Alex, on their first date:
“I didn’t know if it was a date. Maybe we were seeing each other at night because of her work schedule. I went in uneasy, not knowing her situation. It would be incredibly productive for me to sit with one of the smartest, greatest women in the world, especially for a guy like me who is coming through tough times, rehabbing himself, re-establishing himself to folks out there. I thought it would be a win-win no matter what. She told me around the third or fourth inning that she was single. I had to get up and go re-adjust my thoughts. I went to the bathroom and got enough courage to send her a text.”

Jennifer, on what happened when he went to the bathroom:
“So I’m sitting there and he’s walking back, and I get a text. It says . . .‘You look sexy AF.’ And then it took a turn. The fire alarm went off, and we had to evacuate. No, really. The fire alarm went off!”

Alex, on what they have in common:
“We are very much twins. We’re both Leos; we’re both from New York; we’re both Latino and about 20 other things.”

Jennifer, on what they have in common:
“I understand him in a way that I don’t think anyone else could, and he understands me in a way that no one else could ever. In his 20s, he came into big success with the biggest baseball contract [at the time]. I had a No. 1 movie and a No. 1 album and made history. We both had ups and downs and challenges in our 30s, and by our 40s we’d both been through so much. And more importantly than anything, we had both done a lot of work on ourselves.”

Tom Brady Tells You How To Avoid Sunburns

ESPN The Magazine recently wrote a profile on Tom Brady. Here is an excerpt where Brady talks about the TB12 Method (he previously wrote a book titled The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Peak Performance):

"It has become customary to think of Brady as an athlete without limits, one who overturns expectation by refusing to concede an inch to anyone else's idea of the inevitable. But The TB12 Method offers a portrait of a ferociously limited human being, albeit the world's "most hydrated" one. Every day, he wakes up at 6 in the morning and immediately drinks 20 ounces of purified water, augmented with TB12 electrolytes, which, as he tells us, contain the "72 trace minerals" generally lost in perspiration. As a result, he says, he is so well-hydrated that "even with adequate exposure to the sun, I won't get sunburned," and he presumes that the muscles under his skin look like "beautiful tenderloins" instead of "shriveled jerky." He trains about four hours a day, and on most days, he "does pliability" with Guerrero, who, with hands capable of generating "50 newtons of force in a single finger" -- about 11 pounds -- applies "targeted pressure" to Brady's muscles. "On the rare occasions when I don't have the benefit of working with Alex," he either does "partner-pliability" or goes solo with a jar of coconut oil he applies himself and a TB12 "vibrating sphere." He eats abstemiously, with few portion sizes bigger than the palm of his hand, but also with a purpose, to maintain the "alkalinity" of his body. And he sleeps in the same determinedly therapeutic fashion, repairing to bed at 9 each night in a room uncontaminated by either technology or pet dander. He keeps a glass of water by his bedside and sleeps, famously, in TB12 "bioceramic recovery wear," which is also for sale from TB12 and which Brady also considers part of a "movement" -- the "tech-enabled apparel and sleepwear" movement."

Another day, another round of dirtbags.

Page Six reports that Jeremy Piven has been called out for groping a former Entourage actress. Ariane Bellmar recently tweeted at Piven, “‘Member when you cornered me in your trailer on the #Entourage set? ‘Member grabbing my boobies on the [couch] without asking?? Member when I tried to leave; you grabbed me by the ass, looked at yourself in the mirror, & said what a ‘beautiful couple’ we made? [Piven cornered me and] forcefully fondled my breasts & bum [on two occasions]. Once at the [Playboy] mansion & once on [the ‘Entourage’] set.”

E! News reports that Andy Dick has been fired from a film for sexual misconduct. "Dick's alleged inappropriate behavior included groping people's genitals, unwanted kissing, licking and sexual propositions."

Dick's response is as follows: "My middle name is 'misconduct.' They know what they signed up for. I didn't grab anybody's genitals. Of course I'm going to proposition people. I'm single, depressed, lonely and trying to get a date. They can just say no, and they probably did and then I was done...I might have kissed somebody on the cheek to say goodbye and then licked them. That's my thing—I licked Carrie Fisher at a roast. It's me being funny. I'm not trying to sexually harass people. I don't grope people anymore. I don't expose myself anymore. I do understand that the temperature in the world right now is delicate."
